Riaz Mohammad Khan is the former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. In his nearly four decades in Pakistan’s diplomatic service, he served as Ambassador to China and Kazakhstan, Foreign Office Spokesman, and Director of the Afghanistan Ministry's office dealing with Afghanistan. . He is the author of Untying the Afghan Knot: Negotiating Soviet Withdrawal, written while he was an Associate at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University. As the Wilson Center's 2009 Pakistan Scholar, he completed "Afghanistan and Pakistan: Conflict, Extremism, and Resistance to Modernity," which was released in the summer of 2011.

Howard B. Schaffer is a retired American Foreign Service officer who spent much of his 36-year career dealing with U.S. relations with South Asia. He served as ambassador to Bangladesh (1984-87), political counselor at American embassies in India (1977-79) and Pakistan (1974-77), and was twice deputy assistant secretary of state responsible for South Asian affairs. He retired from the Foreign Service in 1991 and joined ISD soon afterward. Ambassador Schaffer co-authored and published How Pakistan Negotiates with the United States with his wife, Ambassador Teresita Schaffer in 2011.

Teresita C. Schaffer is a non-resident Senior Fellow at Brookings Institution and serves as a Senior Adviser to McLarty Associates. In her three-decade career in the U.S. Foreign Service, Ambassador Schaffer was one of the State Department’s leading experts on South Asia, where she spent a total of 11 years. Among her other posts, she served as U.S. Ambassador in Sri Lanka. Ambassador Schaffer co-authored and published How Pakistan Negotiates with the United States with her husband, Ambassador Howard Schaffer in 2011.

Dr. William Maley is Foundation Director of the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, a long-time scholar of multilateral diplomacy and Asian politics, and commentator on diplomacy and global politics. He is also A Barrister of the High Court of Australia, a member of the the Refugee Council of Australia, and of the Australian Committee of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific.
